While company culture has always been important, in the turbulent business climate of today, employees expect a positive workplace culture from their employers. Employers are competing for talent like never before. An accurate perception of employee satisfaction is essential to building great businesses for a greater purpose.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are exciting and challenging times for business leaders. In 2022, we emerged from a global pandemic to find ourselves facing new obstacles. On the human resources side, we are experiencing wage growth, a tight labor market, and high turnover. Meanwhile, inflation, supply chain disruptions, political divisions, and global uncertainties continue to put pressure on our businesses\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Underlying these current realities is a significant generational transition. Much was made of the entry of the millennial generation into the workplace twenty years ago. Those millennials are today\u2019s frontline and middle managers, while Generation X has moved into senior management positions. Meanwhile, baby boomers are rapidly retiring and Generation Z is emerging into the workforce.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shift to a workplace where personal fulfillment, access to influence, and a meaningful mission are workers\u2019 baseline expectations is almost complete. For today\u2019s employees, culture isn\u2019t an afterthought\u2014it\u2019s an expectation in the workplace. These employees expect fulfilling careers with high employee engagement. <\/span><b>Employees today are not willing to work for a toxic organization merely out of an abstract duty to provide for their families or serve God.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are certain fundamentals about flourishing workplaces that persist through changing seasons. When leaders grasp the key drivers for a positive workplace, their organization will thrive as conditions evolve. A flourishing workplace isn\u2019t about plugging in the same strategy that always worked before. Instead, we need to be willing to experiment with new strategies for success in emerging circumstances.<\/span><\/p><h2>What is Workplace Culture and Why Does It Matter?\u00a0<\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Culture can be thought of as \u201chow we do things around here.\u201d It is comprised of shared beliefs and values that a group expresses in priorities, decisions, and, above all, behaviors. In formal and informal ways, culture is established by the people in the group with the greatest perceived authority and status, usually identified as leaders. These culture-shapers communicate and reinforce norms that shape the expectations and actions of people in the group.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A group\u2019s culture powerfully affects how much people personally engage with what the group is doing. The more an organizational culture flourishes, the more energy, diligence, and joy employees bring to what they do. By measuring employee engagement!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over years of research with Christian-owned businesses and Christian organizations, <\/span><span style=\"color: #e1b87f;\"><a style=\"color: #e1b87f;\" href=\"https:\/\/workplaces.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Best Christian Workplaces (BCW)<\/span> <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has found predictable patterns in workplace culture. They work with passion and are connected to the mission of their organization. They bring discretionary effort to their jobs. These people are innovating and driving their organizations forward. That\u2019s the good news.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But here\u2019s the bad news\u2014<\/span><b>40% of the workforce is neutral<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014they are not feeling engaged by their work. These neutral employees are a signal of an unhealthy culture. They are occupying space in your organization but are not working with energy or passion. As they \u201csleepwalk\u201d through their days, they put their organizations at risk for lackluster results or worse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the news gets worse.<\/span><b> 6% of employees are actively disengaged<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While this seems like a small percentage, it essentially means that 6 out of 100 employees are not just \u201csleepwalking\u201d, but actively spreading unhappiness and toxic feelings in your workplace. Their unhappiness can easily infect neutral employees, and they are certainly undermining what your engaged co-workers are trying to accomplish.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine that your employees are rowing in a race:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 out of 10 people in a boat are rowing to win.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 out of 10 are not in sync with the rest of the team and may even have their oars on their laps.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 out of 10 is drilling a hole in the boat or rowing backward.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine how different the outcome of your race would be if all 10 of your team members were rowing to win!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you measure employee engagement and identify specific ways to improve workplace culture, the benefits are felt throughout your organization. Engagement is quantifiable and can have a positive impact on the bottom line. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a8358dc elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a8358dc\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e8c56ab\" data-id=\"e8c56ab\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a9ed5a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7a9ed5a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>A Flourishing Culture Has Bottom-line Impact<\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent<\/span><span style=\"color: #e1b87f;\"><a style=\"color: #e1b87f;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/349484\/state-of-the-global-workplace-2022-report.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Gallup study on the State of the Workplace (2022)<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> underscores an enduring truth: cultivating a positive workplace culture leads to greater profitability. This research compared organizations with high employee engagement and those with low employee engagement. While company culture has always been important, in the turbulent business climate of today, employees expect a positive workplace culture from their employers. Employers are competing for talent like never before. An accurate perception of employee satisfaction is essential to building great businesses for a greater purpose.\u00a0<\/p><p>These are exciting and challenging times for business leaders. In 2022, we emerged from a global pandemic to find ourselves facing new obstacles. On the human resources side, we are experiencing wage growth, a tight labor market, and high turnover. Meanwhile, inflation, supply chain disruptions, political divisions, and global uncertainties continue to put pressure on our businesses\u00a0<\/p><p>Underlying these current realities is a significant generational transition. Much was made of the entry of the millennial generation into the workplace twenty years ago. Those millennials are today\u2019s frontline and middle managers, while Generation X has moved into senior management positions. Meanwhile, baby boomers are rapidly retiring and Generation Z is emerging into the workforce.\u00a0<\/p><p>The shift to a workplace where personal fulfillment, access to influence, and a meaningful mission are workers\u2019 baseline expectations is almost complete. When leaders grasp the key drivers for a positive workplace, their organization will thrive as conditions evolve. A flourishing workplace isn\u2019t about plugging in the same strategy that always worked before. Instead, we need to be willing to experiment with new strategies for success in emerging circumstances.<\/p><h2>What is Workplace Culture and Why Does It Matter?\u00a0<\/h2><p>Culture can be thought of as \u201chow we do things around here.\u201d It is comprised of shared beliefs and values that a group expresses in priorities, decisions, and, above all, behaviors. In formal and informal ways, culture is established by the people in the group with the greatest perceived authority and status, usually identified as leaders. By measuring employee engagement!<\/p><p>Over years of research with Christian-owned businesses and Christian organizations, <a style=\"color: #e1b87f;\" href=\"https:\/\/workplaces.org\/\">Best Christian Workplaces (BCW) <\/a>has found predictable patterns in workplace culture. We can measure these categories to determine the level of employee engagement.<\/p><p>In 2021, BCW surveyed 48,600 employees and found that just over half of the employees felt actively engaged with their work.<\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1024\" height=\"274\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats-1024x274.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats-1024x274.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats-300x80.png 300w, https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats-768x205.png 768w, https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats-1536x411.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.joinc12.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/stats.png 1750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<p>The good news is that <b>54% of those we surveyed were engaged and energized <\/b>in their work. They work with passion and are connected to the mission of their organization. They bring discretionary effort to their jobs. These people are innovating and driving their organizations forward. That\u2019s the good news.<\/p><p>But here\u2019s the bad news\u2014<b>40% of the workforce is neutral<\/b>\u2014they are not feeling engaged by their work. These neutral employees are a signal of an unhealthy culture. They are occupying space in your organization but are not working with energy or passion. As they \u201csleepwalk\u201d through their days, they put their organizations at risk for lackluster results or worse.\u00a0<\/p><p>And the news gets worse.<b> 6% of employees are actively disengaged<\/b>. While this seems like a small percentage, it essentially means that 6 out of 100 employees are not just \u201csleepwalking\u201d, but actively spreading unhappiness and toxic feelings in your workplace. Their unhappiness can easily infect neutral employees, and they are certainly undermining what your engaged co-workers are trying to accomplish.<\/p><p>Imagine that your employees are rowing in a race:<\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">5 out of 10 people in a boat are rowing to win.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">4 out of 10 are not in sync with the rest of the team and may even have their oars on their laps.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">1 out of 10 is drilling a hole in the boat or rowing backward.<\/li><\/ul><p>Imagine how different the outcome of your race would be if all 10 of your team members were rowing to win!<\/p><p>When you measure employee engagement and identify specific ways to improve workplace culture, the benefits are felt throughout your organization. Engagement is quantifiable and can have a positive impact on the bottom line. <\/p><h2>A Flourishing Culture Has Bottom-line Impact<\/h2><p>A recent<a style=\"color: #e1b87f;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/349484\/state-of-the-global-workplace-2022-report.aspx\"> Gallup study on the State of the Workplace (2022)<\/a> underscores an enduring truth: cultivating a positive workplace culture leads to greater profitability. This research compared organizations with high employee engagement and those with low employee engagement. That\u2019s the good news.<\/p><p>But here\u2019s the bad news\u2014<b>40% of the workforce is neutral<\/b>\u2014they are not feeling engaged by their work. These neutral employees are a signal of an unhealthy culture. They are occupying space in your organization but are not working with energy or passion. As they \u201csleepwalk\u201d through their days, they put their organizations at risk for lackluster results or worse.\u00a0<\/p><p>And the news gets worse.<b> 6% of employees are actively disengaged<\/b>. While this seems like a small percentage, it essentially means that 6 out of 100 employees are not just \u201csleepwalking\u201d, but actively spreading unhappiness and toxic feelings in your workplace. Their unhappiness can easily infect neutral employees, and they are certainly undermining what your engaged co-workers are trying to accomplish.<\/p><p>Imagine that your employees are rowing in a race:<\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">5 out of 10 people in a boat are rowing to win.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">4 out of 10 are not in sync with the rest of the team and may even have their oars on their laps.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">1 out of 10 is drilling a hole in the boat or rowing backward.<\/li><\/ul><p>Imagine how different the outcome of your race would be if all 10 of your team members were rowing to win!<\/p><p>When you measure employee engagement and identify specific ways to improve workplace culture, the benefits are felt throughout your organization.
